Healing begins when we feel safe enough to slow down, reflect, and be truly heard. I provide trauma-informed counseling and art therapy for adolescents (12+), adults, and couples seeking relief from distress and a deeper understanding of themselves. I especially enjoy supporting those in helping professions—counselors, first responders, and caregivers—who dedicate so much to others and need space to care for themselves. My approach is collaborative, compassionate, and rooted in the belief that insight, creativity, and supportive relationships can foster meaningful change.
My journey to therapy began long before formal training. When my parents divorced, I experienced firsthand the power of a safe space to process difficult emotions. That early encounter inspired my lifelong curiosity about healing and the transformative impact of compassionate support.
I earned my Master’s degree in Art Therapy from The George Washington University in 2006. Early in my career, I worked on an inpatient psychiatric unit with children and adolescents who had experienced trauma and substance use. I also taught in special education, shaping my respect for the resilience of individuals and families navigating complex challenges.
Over the past two decades, I’ve worked with teens, adults, couples, and families in diverse settings. My practice integrates trauma-informed care, EMDR, Internal Family Systems (IFS), attachment theory, and family-of-origin exploration. Experience in Critical Incident Stress Management (CISM) and Search and Rescue has strengthened my ability to provide a calm, grounded presence for both acute and long-standing challenges.
As a Board-Certified Art Therapist, I often incorporate creative expression into counseling. No artistic experience is needed—art can be another language for processing emotions, exploring experiences, and discovering insight. I also lead Creativity Recovery Workshops, helping artists and creatives reconnect with their process and move through creative blocks.
I have supported individuals navigating postpartum depression, grief, special needs, learning differences, and dementia, among other challenges. Personal experiences of loss have deepened my understanding of grief and the importance of community and supportive care.
What It’s Like to Work With Me
Beginning counseling can feel both hopeful and vulnerable. My goal is to create a space where you feel safe, seen, and respected. Sessions often combine conversation, reflection, and practical tools for navigating life’s challenges, with art therapy offered as another way to explore emotions and experiences.
Clients often describe my presence as calm and grounded. Together, we build insight, strengthen inner resources, and work toward lasting change. Trauma-informed care means focusing not only on processing difficult experiences but also on cultivating resilience, balance, and creative expression.
A Gentle Invitation
You don’t have to navigate life’s challenges alone. If my approach resonates, I invite you to reach out and explore whether working together feels like a good fit.
A HISTORY OF NEW CREATIONS COUNSELING AND ART THERAPY
In 2012, New Creations Counseling and Art Therapy was established to help people to heal from pain, identify hope, and envision plans for the future. There seemed to be a need for Christians providing counseling services in Washington D.C. In 2020, I relocated to Wyoming to host counseling sessions and art therapy retreats. In 2026, the business expanded counseling and retreat services to northern Colorado.
One inspiration for this service has been, "To comfort all who mourn, and provide for those who grieve, to bestow on them a crown of beauty for ashes, the oil of gladness instead of mourning, and a garment of praise instead of a spirit of despair. They will be called oaks of righteousness, a planting of the Lord for the display of his splendor." Isaiah 61: 2-3
